Art Durinski was Designer and Art Director at "Information International, Inc." ("Triple I") from 1976 to 1983, as well as an Art Director at "Digital Productions," where he won a "Clio Award" for the computer generated Sony "Walkman" Commercial. From 1984 to 1986, Art was Creative Director at "Omnibus Computer Graphics," Los Angeles. Prior to his 1976 involvement with Computer Graphics, Art Durinski was Principal of "Art Durinski Design," a design and pro- duction studio specializing in Corporate Identity Programs. From 1986 to 1988, Art lived and worked in Tokyo, Japan, where he was a Creative Advisor and Director with "Links Corporation." After re-establishing Los Angeles as his "home base," Art founded "the Durinski Design Group,"
a design and consulting firm specializing in the Conceptualization, Design, and Direction of Motion Sequences for the International Advertising and Entertainment Communities.
Art holds MA and MFA Degrees (in Design) from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He has taught at various Educational Institutions (including UCLA, USC, and Otis College of Art and Design) specializing in the areas of "Design" and "Digital Imagery." Art Durinski has spoken at numerous Professional and Industry Events internationally, and is recognized throughout the World as a Computer Graphics Design Pioneer.
Movies and Projects that Art has worked on include: "Looker," "Tron," "Explorers," "The Last Starfighter," "The Flight of the Navigator," and the Walt Disney 3D Movie "Magic Journeys," the CBS "Campaign Graphics," the Sony Corporation's "It's a Sony" Corporate Logo, the "Expo 86" promotional television commercials, and commercials for Japan Railroad's new "Linear Motor Car," plus numerous other commercials and broadcast graphics for international clients. He and his work has won countless awards, including five "Clio" nominations. Art worked as the Creative Director for S.A.I.C.’s (“Scientific Applications International Corporation”) location-based entertainment project named “Virtual Indy Race Simulator.” In the area of feature films, Art was the "Supervisor of Visual Effects" for the Sony Pictures’ film entitled "Brainscan," directed by John Flynn and produced by Michel Roy. Art was also the “Digital Effects Supervisor” for the New Line Cinema feature film entitled “Blink,” directed by Michael Apted and produced by David Blocker, and the “Effects Supervisor” for the HBO film entitled “My Left Hook.” And in the international film marketplace, Art was the “Visual Effects Supervisor” for the Japanese feature film entitled “Nemuru Otoko” directed by Kohei Oguri. “Nemuru Otoko” won the “Grand Jury Award” at the Montreal Film Festival. Art has also directed a seven minute interactive, stereo- scopic Sega Enterprises’ motion (ride) film called “Aqua Nova.” For this project Art also had to assemble and manage the creative team. Other projects include: directing animation for a series of ten commercials for the Japanese phone company “DDI,” directing visual effects for the “X-Files” television show, directing digital effects for the movies entitled “Genie,” “Shrunken City,” and “Progeny,” designing and directing broadcast graphics for "Novocom," Los Angeles, and art direction and visual effects consulting for "Walt Disney Feature Animation." Art is the “Visual Effects Supervisor” for the Japanese feature film entitled “Umoregi” directed by Kohei Oguri which just premiered at the 2005 Cannes Film Festival.
And Art Durinski has a major interest in (and experience in) creating and developing digital con- tent for destination-based interactive installations and environments. To this end he has recently designed and produced such projects as: "The Virtual Aquarium," and the interactive "Holo Table" Project for Sony Corporation for their Exhibition Spaces in Beijing, China and in Tokyo, Japan.
Art was featured in the HDTV documentary entitled "The Story of Computer Graphics," and is also a founding "Board Director" of the professional organization "The Visual Effects Society." |
